In Lawrence, there is something called “Final Fridays.” Every last Friday of every month, there are free art exhibits in many stores and other downtown venues. Coincidentally, last night’s fell on our own final Friday here in Lawrence. It was also my final day of work. So after a short work day, we hit Genovese for their happy hour to enjoy their zucchini chips and sangria one last time.
Then for dinner, we headed out to Encore, for one last awesome Chinese food dinner. Our friends brought us some great gifts, including a tennis ball launcher for our soon-to-be pup, and some one of a kind clever designed t-shirts. Andy’s says “Taste Nightclub. Try the Sea Bass,” encapsulating two different favorite memories. We had one last frozen margarita at “our place,” Dynamite Saloon. Then I had the brilliant idea to order every kind of fry at Burger Stand, so we each bought a side and rotated them down the table – truffle fries, duck fat fries, regular, sweet potato, cajun, and poutine. Andrew said it may be the best idea I’ve ever had. We watched the Olympic opening ceremony and the guys played pool. We were all so full we decided to do a few laps on Mass Street, check out the crazy people in line at Brothers, we even saw the Dusty Bookshelf bookstore kitty asleep in her same spot, even after the store was closed. We ended the night at the Jayhawker. It may be the last time we’ll all get together again, but far from the last time we’ll see or talk to everyone. Much love for our wonderful friends!
